    Definition

Focus breathing is a brief slow-paced ritual combined with a nasal-only breathing rule, used to set the autonomic state and breathing pattern needed for sustained cognitive performance.

    The two-minute pre-work ritual

Sit, set a 90-minute timer. Coherent 5-5 for 12 cycles (two minutes). Notice your breath has slowed, your jaw has loosened. Start the work.

    The nasal-only rule

Mouth closed for the entire 90 minutes. Mouth breathing tends to be faster and shallower, which signals stress to the brain and breaks focus.

    What if you get stuck

Take three slow nasal breaths, exhale longer than inhale. Do not break the nasal rule.

    The reset between blocks

10 minutes. Walk outside if possible, nose-only. One physiological sigh before sitting back down.
